Berlin workshop confirmed for July 30th!

Here’s the announcement for the workshop I’m planning to lead while in Berlin. You need to RSVP, if you plan to attend, so please send me an email and I’ll pass it on to the gallery curators.

Creating Paint from your Local Environment

Saturday, July 30th from 14:00 until 16:30
at Linienstraße 142/143  10115 Berlin

Come and explore the potential of drawing colour from your local environment with Canadian artist Christopher van Donkelaar. In this hands-on, collaborative workshop we will explore the creative freedoms that come from making your own paint from some dirt and an egg. Both amateur and professional artists from all mediums are welcome.

You will have the opportunity to learn:

The process that allows the creation of high-quality, vibrant, durable, light-fast paint with found and inexpensive materials;

How rocks and soils can be used to create unique palettes and to reference places;

Some of the surprising ways in which local materials can inform your painting.

What to bring:
Work clothes (or apron);
Watercolour or acrylic brushes;
Something to paint on.

About the artist:
Christopher creates a wide range of forms using local colour from specific environments. He has lectured to artists, scientists, and educators across Canada, and has been the subject of its national press. His creations can be found in communities, churches, and galleries.
