Pigment Maps: Unheated pigment samples

The best thing about Globe Studios in Kitchener, Ontario is the artists!  In order to heat a number of different pigments I was looking at an awful lot of work (typically it takes me 8 hours for each sample).  With being down to the last month of my studies, I wasn’t sure how I could get this done …

In stepped Shannon and Juan from Cynosure Jewelry (studio 15).  After talking about my concerns, we came up with a solution that would let me heat in batches.  It took a night of fabrication, but the result is little pigment trays cut out of firing brick.  Each of these holds 9 different rock and soil samples, which I’ll use in creating my upcoming pigment map.
