Royal Alberta Museum: Research

I found myself in Edmonton, Alberta this week.  I spent much of my off-time exploring the city.

The highlight of this exploration time was visiting the Royal Alberta Museum (in the hopes that it would provide a variety of, “collections” examples, which it did in spades!)  The collections exhibited spanned historic Victorian layouts, modern museum examples, research based forms, and interactive, child-focused types.  And, since the topic of all these was the natural sciences, they were all especially applicable to my interests.

Such collections are fascinating in what they present ideologically behind their visual displays.  The choice to show prized and rare specimens, simplified snap-shots and only a partial selection of the collection really emphasized the museum’s perspective of its visitors.
