I recently finished Moby Dick, the 1851 book by Herman Melville. One of the many wonderful passages that caught my attention is this one from chapter 32, “Small erections may be finished by their first architects; grand ones, true ones, ever leave the copestone to posterity. God keep me from ever completing anything!“.
As of today the 100 mile ART Project is shifting its focus from collecting to building. But in doing so, I am amazed at how many things are left undone! There are a dozen other locations I could still visit, even more minerals and plants to collect and countless processes I could try and perfect.
Still, Ishmael’s quote has given me something to ponder and a small comfort in moving forward.
